Overview

The Professional Polygraph Examiner (PPE®) certification, issued by the International Security Certification Board (ISCB®), is an ANAB-accredited program under the ISO/IEC 17024 framework. This credential validates that a professional is fully competent to conduct credibility assessments using polygraph methodology, applying psychophysiological techniques with the highest ethical and professional standards.

The PPE® is recognized internationally as the benchmark for professional polygraph examiners. Holding this certification demonstrates that the examiner meets rigorous global requirements for education, training, supervised practice, and adherence to ISCB’s Code of Ethics.

  • Single-Issue Screening Techniques – Structured 2- and 4-question protocols for narrowly focused issues.

  • Multiple-Issue Screening Techniques – 2, 3, and 4 relevant question formats for examinations covering multiple matters in one session.

  • ESS-M (Empirical Scoring System – Multinomial) – A standardized scoring system applying multinomial decision rules to classify results as Deception Indicated (DI), No Deception Indicated (NDI), or Inconclusive (INC).

  • Decision Rules – Global cutscores and empirically validated rules ensuring defensible outcomes.

  • Identification of Physiological Responses – Cardiovascular, respiratory, electrodermal, and movement-related activity interpreted under ISCB standards.
